Happy Hump Day / 2-28-18

Happy Hump Day EveryOne
Blow the Kazoo, and bang the Bamboozal, give it all you got as this is Hump Day. Now we have got to get up the rest of the way on this side of the mountain before we can stop and play a full tune. But up we will get and up we will go. cause that is the way to the end of the show. Now when we get to the top, remember it is only half way through the day and half way through the week. But we need to do a couple of things while we are there. First we take a look back to see just where we have come from, then turn and check out our future and where we need to be going. And just for kicks while on the top of this hill we will take the time to toot our horns and wing our wangdangles. Then once we have finished we will pack up our gear and off down the other side on our way to the next checkpoint of our week. Fun, well some if it will be, Work? well yes some if it will be, but it will be what we make it come good or bad. Speaking of which, along the way those in great need are still out there in the droves and we have been blessed to be here, so we will reach out and we will give them a hand in whatever we can, as that is what we are here to do. Now lace up them hikers and take hold that staff and and for this last wonderful day in the month of February lets make it the best that we can and go out with a bang and make us a most Happy, Happy, yes a happy to remember.

Trumpeting Tuesday / 2-27-18

Trumpeting Tuesday EveryOne
Raise your eyelids and get those feet out of that cranial bed its sleeping in. The band is already trying to strike up a tune and all of our hot air is needed to sound right. We made it through yesterday with only a few sour notes and today we plan to sound even better, all while climbing this mountain before us. Many of us want to jump or fast forward through the music, but each step we take is a necessity progression to making this symphony flow and come together in the end. No different in our climb that each step is necessary to get up to the top, over and down the other side. Is it easy? Heck no. Is it life? Absolutely, it is the way we move, the way we learn and the way we get ahead. So let’s get it together and join the band as we lace up the hikers and take hold that staff. Still too many along the way that need our help, so as we come on them we will take the time, to pause the music, reach out and lend a hand and help them on their way. It’s not for our own personal horn tooting that we do it, but to see that another part of humanity is helped along the way. Now time to hear and feel the cadence and get this parade into full stride and go make us a most Happy, Happy all day long.

Many Morning Melodies / 2-26-18

Many Morning Melodies EveryOne
May the music of your morning be harmoniously melodic and fill the vestibules of your cranium with mighty nice sounds. But let’s not get it so muted that one falls back asleep before our week actually gets going. So put on a beat that gets the toes tapping the heart rate pumping and the brain cells dancing. The weekend is over and a new day has already dawned and a new adventure is about to begin. It’s time to look at the score before you and find the beat and the rhythm. We need to find that groove that is going to lead us all the way to the end. It’s not going to be easy, and it’s a new and uncharted trail, but we are going to make beautiful music together, from start to finish. Now along the way we are going to come on those in hard times, and in true need. We will stop and we will lend a hand in any way we can and see them to their next checkpoint. Then on our way we will go. And now we need to get suited up, lace up the hikers and grab hold that staff and at the drop of the baton we are on our way. Now let’s get this band on its way and let’s go make us a most Happy, Happy all day long.

Fantastic Friday / 2-23-18

Fantastic Friday EveryOne
The Sun is up, I am up and half the world is up, what on earths name is your brain still doing in it’s cranial bed, let’s get it up and get this day flying. For starters, take those hikers and toss them to the back of the closet, we are on the flats today, and will need the sprinters not the hikers. Next dump the staff as that will only slow us down. Carry as little weight on you as possible as we need to make like a cheetah or a road runner and be lighting fast. Although it is the last day of the standard work week we have got to be on our toes, heads up, and all our senses at their peek. As we have been preaching all week, attitude, attitude, attitude, it’s up to you how you think, how you focus, how you take on today. Sure someone else can be a Debbie Downer around you, but do you allow yourself to succumb to that despair or do you reject the darkness and radiate your sunshine. Do you dip to their low or do you help them rise to your high, it’s up to you and you will need every ounce of that positutitiveness (ok so I may be stretching the english language here) that you can muster up. So keep your eyes up, stay focused and stay persistent throughout today. And just because it is Friday does not mean that the hurting the needing go away, no they are still there and we still need to be alert when we see them to stop and lend a hand and see they get to the next checkpoint. Life is hard, life is not always fair, but we can help shed some hope, some love and care into their lives. Now let’s get this day blazing as we have a wicked party to make happen at the end of this day and we want nothing holding us back or weighing us down from enjoying all that the weekend has to offer us by what we did not do or accomplish that we could of if we had only give our best. Time to make it happen . and let’s go make us a most Happy, Happy all day and all weekend long.

Prodigious Salutations / Thursday 2-22-18

Prodigious Salutations EveryOne
Hi-ho, hi-ho it’s time to go, go, go, so up, up, up and let’s get at em. This is a day to may hey in every which way we can. So get them sleepy eyes pried open and get those slinky legs underneath you as this is no day to ask the world to stop and let you off. Well you could ask but it ain’t gonna happen so you might as well suck it up and make the most of it. The difference here is you can choose to make the most of what is before you, or you can choose loaf your way through and hope you get something done. Accomplishments are 89% perspiration, 10% inspiration and 1% luck (if you believe in such a thing). The point here is in the majority of issues in life, work, relationships, even our fun, it is what you put into it and giving it all you’ve got vs sitting around waiting for the lightbulb to go on if your lucky for to even go on. So let’s get it together this morning, put a little no let’s put a lot of sunshine in our face and attitude and see just what we can do with this day. It’s not going to happen barefoot, so time to get those hikers on and laced up tight and take hold that staff. Today we are looking to get down and off this mountain and clear the tree line. Along the way we will find those who are in true need, and we will not walk on by or turn our heads away from their needs. We will stop, we will help and we will give of our time as needed to get them to the next point. So now is the time to take it to the line and get this train railing down the hill, and as you do it let make us a most Happy, Happy all, and I mean all day long.

Starting to Prepare for 2018 Vacations & New England Clam Chowder / 2-21-18

Last week in February and what are you doing coming summer? Do you have your vacation time approved yet? Do you have your reservations made? Have you circled it on the calendar? Have you started a coin jar for the kids and for yourself as a slush fun to just have a little extra put back to allow for spending while on vacation? Do you own a cottage? Have you penned in your spring visit to get the place opened and cleaned and dusted and aired out. Have you contacted Aunt Ronna and Sister Lou to when they want to come down for a weekend or week? Have you started to look at some of the things that you would like to do that need early reservations like whale watching or seal watching? What about a deep sea fishing excursion? Or a Canal Cruise? What about a golfing trip, playing a different course every day or every other day? There are so many things to do places to go and people to meet. Don’t wait till the last minute to try to make your decisions and wonder why you can’t get the time or date you want or you get in family squabbles about what anyone wants to do. Start looking at places you want to eat, what they offer, does anyone have allergies that needs special attention? You don’t have to micro manage it all, this is a vacation, you want some spontaneous things to happen, but in a good way not a bad way. I know there are a few of you out there that needs to have every minute planned out, even nap time. But for the majority I think most of us work better when we have at least an idea of whats available and who would like to do what. Better to be planned and not do then want to do and can’t because of lack of planning. I know this is a lot to digest, but going into the month of March really take a serious look at it, get the absolutes nailed down, when and where, then let the rest start to unfold. If you have kids, get them involved and ask for their input, they will enjoy it so much more, besides then you get to say, well that was your idea not ours, LOL. Anyway I hope I have given you some ideas of things that you could be doing now. The new Cape Cod vacation book/magazine from the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce is now out, order or pick one up. get to online sites like, hum maybe CapeCodToday.com or CapeCodTravel.com. google the different towns and see what each has to offer and start there. Ok information overload at this point. Somewhere in the next couple weeks I will start to go over packing lists and other vacation should have could have would haves. But until then, enjoy your winter break and if you can make it out here during the off season we would love to have you. Look forward to last week in March for the next installment of Brews, Distilleries and Vineyards info edition. Have a happy, happy and great and wonderful, especially if you can do it right here on old Cape Cod.
So the winter is chugging along and where oh where can one eat, well believe it or not we have more places staying open then not. A few fun places are, the Brewster Fish House did not close in January and are open for business. If you want a really nice lunch or dinner check them out. Personally i have not eaten there, but know many folks who have and just love it. They are located at 2208 Main St – 6A, Brewster and you can check out hours and menu on their website http://www.brewsterfishhouse.com.
Another wonderful place to eat that since I have been here has not closed is the Naked Oyster located at 410 Main Street, Hyannis. Here I have eaten and they are wonderful. They have a wicked good raw bar and the food is outstanding with a really nice cozy ambiance. During the off season check Wednesdays out for some fun deals. Their website is wwwlnakedoyster.com.
One play that took a January break that is now open again is the Roadhouse Cafe. Another place I have eaten and is wonderful. In our opinion some of the best clam chowder out there (other than my wife’s recipe) on the Cape. And keep your ears open to those radio special that you can get coupon deals. This makes the Roadhouse really accessible to more folks to enjoy. Thank you to the owners for doing that. Their website is http://www.roadhousecafe.com.
And last but not least another place that does note close through the winter is that down home cooking of Doyle’s Family Restaurant in South Yarmouth. Now do they have a water view? No, do they have high end seating and what one would call ambiance? No, But what they do have is a family atmosphere with great food for a great price. Honestly I could eat here or take someone there and never question if they were going to get a good meal or not and know that I am not going to have to sell the homestead to pay for good eats.
So while the crowds are still off Cape, while you can still make left hand turns on RT 28, while you still done have to wait in hour or longer lines get out and support our local businesses that have either stayed open all year, or took only a short break and are now reopening. Come March even more will be open again, but as the restaurants open so come back those who have been away and the lines start to grow. So get out there and enjoy some really good food.
Well I got another post card from the old lighthouse keeper. said he is having the time of his life, I guess he is finally enjoying his time away. At the beginning I was afraid he was not going to make it through the first week without turning around and come back. But I am glad he is enjoying himself, he does so much for the community that he deserved and good long break. Only thing is, he mentions something about the darn heat, I guess he is working his way up the Gulf side of of Florida and the heat has been pretty intense. But I didn’t hear him clamoring to get back here yet. A note at the bottom asked if I had been up to see the lighthouse lately and if it was being attended to properly. He did give me a contact I could reach him through, but I think he just needs to enjoy his vacation. Although the boys who have been sent up to keep and eye on the place and take the readings are nice young chaps, well lets just say they do what they have to and get out of there. I think they are a little spooked about the place and will be happier the sooner the old guy gets back and can take over doing the job again. I would say we should see him about the first week in March. So hang in there folks, he will be returning soon.
I have offered some time ago a New England Clam Chowder recipe, so this time I found a different one. This has a few more ingredients but it is good just the same. Now I have to say it is not my wife’s recipe but again she is not willing to give her recipe up yet. Some of the best New England Clam Chowder around and she wont give it up. Also says that is why she will not enter it into competition cause she would have to reveal the recipe and she is not ready to do that. 35 years we have been married as of 3-10-18 and still wont, stop laughing I see that, it’s not funny. LOL. Anyway, I like mine with fresh clams that I have dug earlier in the day. Now for many of us there is only one kind of Clam Chowder and that is New England style, the only reason you would not eat this is, you are allergic to shellfish and just don’t eat anything with shellfish in it. Two you are allergic to dairy products and can’t enjoy it, or 3 well, we just wont go there. So with all that here is an easy recipe for Clam Chowder you might find a liking to, it is not bad, not my wife’s but a good second. And feel free to doctor it up. I have found that some of best recipes include some bacon fat in it, and of course save the bacon to crumble some up in it right as you service it. Have some fun eats. Now on with the show,,

This week’s recipe: New England Clam Chowder

2 slices bacon
1 cup finely chopped onion
2 cups cubed pared potatoes
1 tsp salt
dash pepper (go fresh finely ground(
1 cup water
1 pint shucked fresh clams, or 2 – 10 1/2 oz cans minced clams
(I like more fresh in mine)
2 cups half n half
2 Tbsp butter ( here is were I would add 1 Tbsp of bacon fat)

Chop bacon coarsely. Saute in large kettle until almost crisp. (We usually do the full pound in the oven and pour off the fat as reserve). So you can start with your kettle and add about 1 tbsp of bacon fat to the bottom, then add onions: cook about 5 minutes. Add cubed potatoes, salt, pepper, and 1 cup water. Cook, uncovered, 15 minutes, or until potatoes are fork tender (here again we like to leave ours just a little underdone as these will cook up as you add clams). While these are cooking drain clams, reserving juice and chop clams coarsely. When potatoes are to consistency you wish add clams and 1/2 – 3/4 cup of clam liquid, the half-n-half, and butter and mix well. Heat for about 3-5 minutes, do not boil. This makes about 4 servings, doubles easily.

Happy Hump Day / Wednesday 2-21-18

Happy Hump Day EveryOne
Wicked Wednesday to you, and wow, wow, wow can you believe we will be half way through this work week come 4 hours into today. That right, just 4 to go and we will be on the backside of this week. The key here is not to overlook what we need to do between here and there. This is still and uphill climb and it is seriously steep. We have done an awesome job so far, but now is not the time to get lackadaisical about what we are doing. We need to focus and stay focused on our task and get to the top. When we do get there, take a moment or two to look back from whence we started and see just how far we have come. Then turn and mentally plan out were we are going and see that the goal is in reach but will take all we have to do it. Than remembering the top is not the end of our day but only the mid-point, so we need to pack it up and get moving again off the back side and keep this wonderful day going. So enough talking, and let’s get moving, we need to get those hikers on and laced up tight and grab hold the staff cause we gonna need it. No changes in keep our eyes and ears open to those in true need, we still need to be open and aware and be willing to help when the time arrives. Those is no guarantee that we will not be in their position some day, and thus we need to treat others as we would want to be treated. So time is up, and we need to get it going, no one else is going to do as much for you and you yourself, so let’s go do it and go make us a most Happy, Happy all day long.

Howdy / Tuesday 2-20-18

Howdy EveryOne
Yippee-ki-yay to ya all and a time to get them little doggies going. So shake rake rattle and roll that brain of yours out of it’s comfy cranial bed and let’s get this day rock-n-rolling. Some of us had a grand day yesterday some of us we would like to forget it, but yesterday is behind us, we can not change what went on. Tomorrow is still to come and we can not deal with what is not here yet, but today is before us and we can do something about the now and here. This second leg of the journey will be filled with rocks, boulders, roots, stumps and pit holes, but we will get through them, around them, over them as we continue to make our way to the top. So time to get those hikers laced up and take hold of that staff again, I can’t tell you how many times I leaned on that thing yesterday. No doubt we will again come on those in true need, again we will not by-pass them, we will stop, we will listen, we will lend a hand in any way we can. So with, are you ready? Well ready or not it is time to get this on its way and let’s go make us a most Happy, Happy all day long.

Happy Greetings / 2-19-18

Happy Greetings EveryOne

Rise and shine as this is a great day to be alive and well. Define well? Well? You were able to get out of bed, you have relative health, you have a roof over your head, and there is something, no matter how little or much, in the pantry to eat. Most of us that are reading this can say yah to all of these so it is a great day to be alive. Now with that behind us, we have a journey to embark on, an adventure that needs to be explored and opportunities that need taken advantage of. Whether your week involves working at a paid job, or working the honey do list in retirement or anything in between we all have a road to travel. So we need to get the attitude in check and mind in gear, we need to open our eyes and take note of the path that lies before us. Then grab those hikers and lace them up well, and take hold that staff as we will need it to support us along the way. Now from time to time we will come on those that are in true need, we will not just pass by on the other side, we will not turn our heads, we will take the time to stop, listen and lend a hand in whatever way we can, get them to the next point and go on. Now with all that, we are ready to roll, so let’s get it together and go make us a most Happy, Happy all day long.

Hallelujah Friday / 2-16-18

Hallelujah Friday EveryOne,
Time to jump out of bed and jump up and down cause this is FRIDAY, Get your brain shaken and baken and get your feet rompen and stompen. For starters you can put away those hikers and put the staff back in the umbrella stand, this day calls for only one thing and that is your sprinters and maybe a rally cap if you need. The path before us may look to be flat and level but it will be a grueling, long, hot run through dry, baron, desolate land. The only thing that will not change from every other day are those that are still in true need of help. So be ready to stop and lend a hand in any way you can and see them to their next point or mark and then turn on the jets. Be sure to pace yourself through the day so that you can finish with a good kick and finish strong. There is a party waiting at the end of the day, once you cross the finish line, so you can not just loaf your way through the day, you can not sit in your rocking chair and expect to reap a good reward as you will not finish strong and have everything hanging over your head all weekend long. So get it up, get it going and let’s jump this day all the way from the start to the finish. Then rock the weekend from beginning to end, so to do that we need to get it going and let’s go make us a most Happy, Happy not only all day long but all weekend long as well.
