Brews/Vines& Distilleries April-May 2018 & Chip Cheesecake / 3-28-18

This report will be for April and May only, as June will start our monthly events updates for the season and go through September. I am hoping to have an extra local get more involved this year so I can expand this segment. I will also do what I can to those Breweries, Vineyards/Wineries and Distilleries that want to be involved and if they don’t I will do the occasional mention but I will devote my time to those that want to be apart of this venture. With all that, One of my tried and true faithfuls Cape Cod beer. So with all that on with the show;
First up something that is good for all of 2018 Mug Club Membership, wow get it as a gift for the beer lover in your life or just get it for yourself. This is a great way to enjoy Cape Cod Beer. Check out the list of possible vendors that could pop-up from Saturday to Saturday. So don’t miss a weekend you might be missing something special. You like your pooch, you like your beer, now take your pooch with you to the brewery; Yappy Hour – 2018 Dates!Monthly social with your furry friend – the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 4PM-6PM! Another exciting event; Pseudoscience & Archaeology: The Indiana Jones Effect – 4/2 From H.P. Lovecraft to Indiana Jones and Doctor Who, the impact of the entertainment industry on archaeology is examined. This is THIS MONDAY, so check it out if you want to attend. Now check this one CCB Birthday – 4/13 It’s our birthday! Celebrate 14 years of beer, friendship & fun with us! Live music, local oysters & more. FREE admission. That was just April, now for some May highlights: Cape Cod Beer Cycle/Run Club Every Monday, starting May 7th (excluding holidays)Bike or run with others & enjoy a pint after. Next 3rd Annual Cape Cod Beer Race to the Pint Sunday, May 6th 5k with an afterparty that includes food, drink & live music! Also; Something’s Brewing on Cape Cod Monday, May 14th Sample offerings from premier Cape Cod chefs – all to benefit No Kid Hungry. Curiosity Untapped: Cape Wildlife Center Monday, May 21st Learn how you can help Cape Cod’s baby animals in the wild and last for this report; Farmers Market Meets Happy Hour Every Friday, starting May 25th Farmers, bakers, artisans, musicians & more. Folks go to the website and see all that is going on this is only a smattering of what is happening and it does not do it justest to all they have going on.
The next faithful is Truro Vineyards/South Hollow Distillery. First up as of April 2 they are adding hours being open. As many have known they have been been open Saturday – Mondays through the dark months. Now Beginning April 2nd we will be open Friday-Monday from 11am-5pm (Sunday 12pm-5pm) Tastings from a half hour after we open until 4:30 each day. $10.00. Next up: April 28th- We are planning an Artist Gallery Day where local artists will come set up outside and they will have the opportunity to display and sell their work. This should be really fun so come and check it out. May 19th- Monica Rizzio is performing and guess what (this is actually will 100% be happening). Sometime in May- Julez Weinberg is planning to come back to do casual cocktail demonstration. No tentative dates yet so keep your eyes on the events page at trurovineyardsofcapecod.com. Also something to remind you about, if you are not a member of the Truro Wine Club you really need to check it out. You don’t have to live on the Cape to belong, they do ship. So get to the website and click on the tab labeled Wine Club (hum really original here) but its your gateway to getting a wine shipment 4 times a year with tasty selections, from the winery. Also when you come and visit you get discounts on just about everything, no not everything but just about. So check them out online then come see them, do a tasting and take a bit of liquid Cape Cod home with you, I promise you will not be disappointed.
Last year we started getting some input from the newer owners of Cape Cod Winery in East Falmouth. I am happy as can be that they are willing to keep us fed with updates and events this coming year as well. I was excited last year to see what they were doing and how they had made some really great headway in bringing back the Cape Cod Winery brand. Folks they continue to do updates and tweaks to every part of the winery. And the tasting room is really nice place to meet the owners and get familiarized with all the liquid goodness they have to offer. The great news is staring in April and running through May they will be open for tasting Saturday and Sundays 12 – 4. They are located at 4 Oxbow Rd. E Falmouth, MA or online at http://www.capecodwinery.com. As we get more updates and info we will pass it along. We are hoping for great and wonderful tastings from our friends in East Falmouth.
Well I am hoping to hear from a few others as I have spoken to a couple and they have shown interest so here is opening we can get you more and more. Next report will be the last week in May and that will be for June’s updates. Enjoy our great breweries, vineyards and distilleries and remember please drink responsibly in all situations.
Well now I think I can get in a few words before the old guys takes over and steals my tablet and starts typing away. Problem is I’m not seeing him anywhere around. But I think I can hear him coming up the path, that lead to the beach. Howdy folks, Oh wait a minute my souther draw is still tagging along with me, ya’ll know they talk funny down that, well they think we talk funny, don’t know how they can say that cause we all know we talk normal. Anyway I’m thinking no one is ready this to hear us talk about talking. Easter is this weekend and we have got a huge Easter Egg Hunt going on for the kids. I’m telling we have been planning this even while we were away. we have an area for the little kids and areas for those a kids that aren’t so little, and we even have a wish I was a kid area. And that is where I was just at planing and hiding eggs in that area. I will wait to put the special eggs out until the morning of, cause just in case there is an Easter grinch we don’t want to loose a lot of the special fun eggs we have for the wanna be kids. So if you don’t have anyplace to go after Sunday go to meetins, then come on up and plan an Easter afternoon with us, festivities start at 1 promptly. That so you can get home and change before coming cause you gonna be down in the grubs rummaging through all kinds of things to find them eggs. And with all that, I am planning to have the station and the lamp tower open for the first time this year. And no there will be no eggs in the buildings. I have already been watching all the weather folks making their guesses at what it’s suppose to be like and by golly they all agree, sunshine and decently warm. So again I hope you can find the time to come and check us out. Now once we open this weekend we will be open on the weekends from here until season Memorial Day. From Memorial Day to middle of June open Thursday through Sunday, then from mid June through Labor day we will be open every day of the week. I hope you are getting as excited as we are about warm weather and getting out and seeing all that we remember and what has changed. Now I better get going, as I want to be sure the tower and lamp room are spic and span clean. And I know the Mrs is working hard on the station quarters. Ok folks he is off and running again, just a word to all you our there, please note this is a fiction lighthouse, and a fictional station, and the old guy and his wife are fictional. The events may be happening somewhere, and there are plenty of lighthouses up and down the Cape that this could be any of them. So please come Sunday don’t be driving up and down looking for this specific spot, but do attend your local house of worship, join a sunrise service on the beach (if you need one join the one at Nauset beach at 6:15am, several churches joining together for one great sunrise time.) Find a place doing egg hunts and go hunt. I love all my readers here, but I have had a couple seriously looking for this specific lighthouse or wanting to come visit and I wish it did. The effort is to gain your interest in lighthouses and their heritage and go check them out and learn.
Let the cheesecakes roll on, well after this week we are all going to need some sweets and something very yummy. Lent will be over, Passover will have passed and we will need something tasty to welcome Spring in as everyone knows that April 1st is the real date that spring arrives. I don’t know why, I know spring starts calendar wise in March, but seriously there have been too many times that, that white stuff comes down, and an occasional April but most of us live in denial and that really does not happen. But flowers spring up, trees start to bud leaves and kitchens get baking cheesecake. You’ve never heard of that? Well I don’t know where you’ve been but that’s what it is, so take a look at this recipe, it is a little lengthy as it gives the recipe for the crust as well as the filling and topping. So get it together and right after you finish spring cleaning you will have this ready to sink your teeth into and melt away with. Now on with the show:

This week’s recipe: Chip Cheesecake

Crust:
1 1/2 cup quick oats, uncooked
1/2 cup finally chopped nuts
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup butter, melted

Combine all ingredients, and mix well. Press firmly onto bottom and sides of ungreased 9-inch springform pan, Forming 1 1/2″ rim. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for around 20 minutes or until golden brown. If shrinkage occurs, press bottom and sides of crust back into place while still hot with metal spatula. Cool about 10 or more minutes.

Filling:
2 pkg cream cheese softened (8 oz each)
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 eggs
1 cup sour cream or sour coffee cream
1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces coarsely chopped

mix together cream cheese, sugar ad vanilla, mixing at medium speed in electric mixer until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each added. Blend in sour cream and gently fold in chocolate pieces. Pour into prepared crust and bake n preheated 325 degree oven for about 1 hour. Loosen cake from rim of pan. Cool completely before removing rim.

Topping:
1 can cherry pie filling (21 oz)
1 Tbsp Brandy

Combine pie filling and brandy and spoon evenly over cake, spreading to edges. Chill at least 6 hors or overnight before serving.
