Green Tuesday EveryOne
Well we all made it through Monday, and although I’ve hear a few of you think you are worse for the wear, in reality just the fact that you are here is enough to prove that wrong. And I have to say someone forgot to tell the Cardinals in my neighborhood that I was taking the week off and would like to sleep in a bit. But ooh noo, they are still up at 4:15 in the morning chirping away, and I’m suppose to be happy, that I’m up at this hour on my day off. Really? Well I’m still alive and I still have another chance to travel another path today and experience something new. Ok you can stop laughing about the stupid birds, getting me up. But remember life does have a funny way of getting back. But we are on our way up the mountain side, and we will keep climbing this thing. Remember the world does not stop spinning to let us off and life does not have a pause button so we can figure out what is going on. We need to keep moving, keep going forward, if nothing else sidewards and keep going up. No matter what we will keep it going, keep supporting each other and keep on keeping on. Sounds kind of funny but seriously sometimes we need to encourage each other with a pull or a push, but remember do it in love, be supportive not a pain in the behind and always with a positive word. Time to get those hikers on and grab that staff while we head out the door. Remember this is the last day of the month, 7 down and 5 more to go, so give it all you’ve got today. Along the way there will be those that are in a major hurting way, we will continue to stop, listen and help in what ever way we can. Now, let’s pull it together and get our noses pointing uphill not down and as it is time, let’s go make us a most Happy, Happy all day long, cause no one else is going to do it for us.

Mustard Monday / 7-30-18

Mustard Monday EveryOne
Well it’s another week another Monday another chance for new opportunities. Normally I don’t mention when I am on vacation, when I am working, when I am have doing this or that. But this week I am going to let the cat out of the bag, and just tell you, I am taking off the week of my normal pay the bills job. Some of you know where I live, in a summer destination place. To many think that when you live in a place like this we are all retired, make money out our wazoo, go out to dinner every night and blah, blah, blah. When reality has it, I struggle just like everyone else, I still have to pay my mortgage, I still have to eat, and not out, I still have to pay the electric bill and water bills. There are excise taxes on our vehicles and I have to take my own trash to the dump and get to pay to myself to do it. Some of you out there I know have wondered, is this guy for real, is he just blowing sunshine up a backside, he is just some retired geek tapping out a story every morning. You wonder is this person is for real, do they actually understand what the real world is about. Do they have issues and struggles like you do. I started this what I call silly little morning letter many years ago with just a handful, and it grew. I hate mornings with a passion, I don’t like getting up early, I like staying up late. Although I don’t mind what I do, I never planned working in the industry I do for the past 32 years and still not close to retirement. This started when we all worked in an office together and noticed that we were all grumping in, in the morning, and by mid morning the mood was so sour it was not funny. So I decided to start doing this letter, trying to take a positive look on the day, sharing that the we all have issues going on, trying to put a laugh and a smile on faces and starting out a day in a better light even if I did not want to be working at that hour or at all. Sure I would love to have enough money not to worry about ever working another day of my life doing things I really don’t want to do. But knowing someone else is struggling while trying to make the best of it just like I was seemed to help. I added the holidays & observances along the way when I heard a DJ going it and only giving a few. (and yes over the years I did that too for a while, but it was on a religious station and a church janitor made more money then they paid and when my old job opened back up, better pay and insurance for my family, it was a no brainer although I would give about anything to be back in radio today. But again the pay and trying to start into it today, I still have bills that need to be paid and I still like to eat.) After looking at some of these wacky and weird holidays and observances figured it would at least if nothing else give other a chance to smile and laugh in the morning and have something funny to share around the water cooler. I hope you have enjoyed reading, I know I am not the greatest writer in the world, my spelling is not always the best and my grammar even worse. But I have put it out there anyway, sometimes I get a few comments back both positive and negative. I have some that tell me they can’t read it cause I’m not perfect with the way I write. But I do it to share with you a bit of me, just another person trying to make it through life one day at a time through life’s struggles. Yes I am what some would call a religious but try to leave that out as so those that aren’t can feel comfortable reading. But those that know also get it that, that is a reason I can look at life as I do. I just hope in all this that you can see a real and genuine person, just trying to get through another day, put a smile on another face and pay the bills like everyone else. We all have issue, problems, wants, needs and more, sometimes it’s just nice to know that someone else is going through the same things and has found a way to share smile or two and then pass it on. I am still going to remind us that we need to be aware of those around us that are in desperate need of help, and to advise we will take the time to stop and help in any way we can. Now we have a mountain to climb, does not matter if you are nose to the grindstone or if you are fortunate to get some vacation time we still have a journey to travel. So get the hikers pulled on and take hold that staff and let’s get this day underway. And let’s go make us a most Happy, Happy cause no one else is going to do it for us.

Fryer Friday EveryOne
Wakey, Wakey, time to rise and shine, it’s an Hallelujah Friday cause we have finally made it all the way from Monday to today. Are we through with it yet, nope we still have one more path to travel, one more race to run, one more road to travers, or dessert to cross. With each of us on our own journeys the last days are not the same but the destination is all one goal. So first things first, get rid of the hikers, those will only cause us to go slower, and find those sprinters and lace them up well. Next put the staff back into the umbrella stand and take hold the vizor, you have more need to keep the sun our of your eyes than anything and lotion is a must. Now just cause it’s Friday does not mean we turn our eyes and ears away from those in need. We keep all our senses about us and lend a hand whenever it is needed, taking the time to listen and attending to whatever needs they have and seeing them to the next care center. Now we need to keep that attitude of positive progressive thinking going, we can not let our guard down. We need to be sure that the smile is plastered from ear to ear and we need to keep at a jackrabbits pace not a snails pace. It would be easy to say, let’s just put it on cruise control and just meander our way to the finish line. But don’t become complacent, but keep your foot on the pedal and push it all the way to the end. Then let the party begin all weekend long. Now it’s time to get to the line and get this parade rocken and let’s go make us a most Happy, Happy all day and all weekend long. Oh theme of the week, all are type of Pots or Pans.

Dutch Thursday EveryOne
Ok so we need some positive thinking today, and it is not coming easy cause I woke today and was rudely reminded it was not Friday yet, and worse I could have really stood to have turned that alarm off and just gone right back to sleep. But Oh no, and did I remember to make the coffee, and I ran out of milk so no morning breakfast drink. But I was able to get up and get out of bed, I am waking up and I still have food in my house and I did not go to bed hungry. I am able to get around and actually do a job today, I can come and go out of my dwelling. You see it is all about perspective, attitude, outlook, are things perfect, heck no, am I looking at an easy day of work, heck no, it’s Thursday, it’s the work horse day of the week. Do we still need to get down off this mountain and past the tree line before dark, you bet but we are making progress. And we have been given another day in life to make a difference in whatever you are doing in life right now. So as you get your hikers pulled on and take hold of your staff, may the series of comical error this morning serve only to put a smile on your face, give you a chance to laugh at life and refocus on what is really important. Cause as we are traveling along the paths today we will come on those that have hit dead bottom, are hurt beyond belief, both physically and/or mentally. We will stop, we will take the time to listen and we will see them to the next care station so they can get the help they need. Then pick up our stuff without any fanfare and move on, it’s not for the show, it’s not for the glory or even a thanks, it’s because it is what’s right. Now let’s get this parade marching forward, and let’s go make us a most Happy, Happy all day long, cause no one is going to do it for us.

Wines, Spirits and Beer Events 8-18 & No Bake Lemon Cream Cheesecake / 8-25-18

Ok so we have the next installment of Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries. This week we are starting with Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod, located in North Truro just off of 6 on 6A also known as Shore Rd at the corner of Shore and South Hollow Rd. Also found online at trurovineyardsofcapecod.com, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This Month we have a couple fun things to promote, first very Wednesday, we host “Wine and Dine”, which is a food and wine/cocktail pairing event. There are 5 small courses that is paired with one of the Truro Vineyards wine or sometimes even a cocktail. These are ticked events and they do sell out so get on line pick one, pick all four and have a wonderful night pairing wines and food. Next is Every Sunday, we host “SundayFunday” where we extend our hours until 7pm. The bar and food truck stays open, while there is also a raw bar with oysters and we have a DJ come in as well. This is a free event to attend, the food and bar however does cost but the fun is all free. And don’t forget they do tastings every day, what a wonderful way to try them out before you buy buy buy. Thank you to the gang at Truro Vineyards for keeping us all informed. Also don’t forget if you really love their wine, they have the wine club and can ship all over the country, what a great way to keep a little Cape Cod in your life year round. Also
South Hollow Spirits is next part of the Robert’s family interests, the spirits side of Vineyard. Are you ready for this: Rosé gin (yes you read that right) comes out in August, they are hoping for the 1st but that has not been confirmed absolutely the date but keep your eyes open as this should be interesting and tasty. Also they have a new tasting area dedicated to the South Hollow has now been constructed right next to the Wine Hut a very nice pavilion/ gazebo that will be dedicated to their Rum and Gin tastings in good weather, otherwise it’s inside. If you have not tried their Gin and Rum you are missing some might fine spirits. They just keep on coming with the good stuff. Now they do have their own website at http://southhollowspirits.com/, so check them out and go enjoy.
Next up Cape Cod Winery: Find them at the corner of Rt 28 and 4 Oxbow Rd in East Falmouth. Or find them online at: capecodwinery.com, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Erika sent me the following: We are open 7 days through Labor Day and have live music most Wednesday & Friday evenings 5pm-8pm. We also have events such as yoga and paint nights booked through August. We have added an event calendar to our website where people can go on and check out what events we have going on. They have added a wonderful tented pavilion to do their tastings during the summer and fall and to host special events in. It is nice because you don’t have to worry about the weather, while it might be rainy outside you will be nice and dry. Also stay tuned as their wine club is coming soon. They are doing such a good job it is fun to see this business really taking off.
You might ask how can I be so supportive of both wineries, well first they are at two different ends of the Cape and I really don’t believe they are in competition with each other. Two they offer such different products that you can enjoy both without taking away from either other. And last I am happy to call each friends and I am here to help promote local Cape Cod business not drive a wedge of division. there is plenty of room for both groups and One we don’t mention too often that being Nantucket Winery, only cause they don’t send me anything to post, but they are still part of the Cape Cod Wine scene and do it very well.
Last but not least, my friends at Cape Cod Beer, find them in Hyannis on Phinneys Lane just past Attucks Lane, also online at capecodbeer.com, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. First up : I know this is like last minute notice but, as of July 27 there will be 2 new brews being released at the brewery only, Cirtra Crush Pale Ale and Citra Blond, I will be there during my lunch hour making a double growler purchase for me and my son coming to visit this weekend. Total Yum here. Well let’s turn our sites to August. First the Friday night Farmers Markets continues from 3pm – 6pm. On Monday nights at 5pm is Paddle & Pints meet at Hathaway’s Pond and spend about 1-1.5 hours exploring this quiet picturesque 20 acre kettle pond. Afterwards head over to Cape Cod Beer located just .3 miles down the road to enjoy a pint of the Cape’s finest craft brewed 21+ and there is a cost so sign in and sign up there is a cost for this event. The next Yappy Hour will be help on Tuesday 14 from 4-6 This is a *FREE* VERY CASUAL 2 hour event – so grab your pooch and head on over. If you have ever wanted to try or learn more about PickleBall then August 18th from 12pm-3pm, This is a fair weather even so stay tuned to the weather, but what fun. There is so much going on I can not begin share all that is happening. Go to the website and go under events and for the beer releases check under (guess what) Our Beers and check two categories At the brewery now and coming soon.
Also be sure to check out our other establishments around the Cape, Naukabout Beer in Hyannis and online at http://www.naukabout.com, Hog Island Beer Company in Orleans at ww.hogislandbeerco.com, Devils Purse Brewing in South Dennis and http://www.devilspurse.com/home. Also don’t forget our friends at Cisco Brewing on Nantucket Island and Offshore Ale Company on Marthas Vineyard in Oak Bluffs or http://www.offshoreale.com/. The Cape is a real Vineyards, Spirits and Brewery destination, come and take a week or weekend and discover what Cape Cod has to offer in the liquid libations category.
Since I have been reporting on the wineries and distilleries It’s time to report on some Chocolate shops. First up in North Truro is Chequessett Chocolate, located at 8 Highland Rd, North Truro or on Facebook and at http://www.chequessettchocolate.com and on instagram. Their chocolates are premium crafted and are beyond what you are used to. So what for them at farmers markets and shows, and go check them out online and at the shop and give these sweet confectionary treats a try. You many never go back to anything else.
However speaking of others, I have to mention The Chatham Candy Manor, located at 484 Main St, Chatham on facebook. Personally I believe they have some of the best house made truffles anywhere, and there chocolate bark is to dye for. They have milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate (not really chocolate but still out of this world). Covered this and covered that, dipped this and dipped that and the fudge oh my. I am not a big fudge eater but when I want some this is the place I head for. Yum to the Nth degree. So when you are down Chatham way, check them out.
This time of year good restaurants are around every corner. We are so blessed to have so many that are top quality places that it is hard to get them all in. And the bigger problem is I don’t have the funds to eat at all the ones I want to as often as I do. We have Mexican, Jamaican, Asian, Thia, American and the obvious Seafood. We have breakfast and lunch, lunch and dinner, just dinner and then there are the ice cream parlors. We have family and those local places that cater to anyone and everyone, to those that cater to the upper end of the budge and to those that can afford 100+ a person, just to look at the menu. Sorry you won’t find me reviewing many of those, not because I would not enjoy them, but because that is out of my budget, and besides we have so many other places that I can and would enjoy so much more. And personally my reports are for the real middle class folk who go out once in a while and want a good meal for a good price. So this summer do what you can to get our there, utilize 1/2 price deals, cape cod daily deals and any other online or coupon book to lower your costs, then go and enjoy, whether you are on vacation or here year round. We have so much to offer that we overlook some of those smaller places that have fantastic food and fair. As soon as I am out to a new place I will be giving you an update and review as it happens. And until then, eat health, stay wealthy and wise and live to eat not just eat to live and enjoy every bit of life, especially here on old Cape Cod.
Welcome to you all, and what a wonderful summer we have been having here. The only thing that could be a little better is we so desperately need some rain. But the benefit to the tourist is that no rain means go, go, go and beach, beach, beach. I will say it also makes it nice for those coming and visiting the light house tower and grounds. I will say though the last few evenings we have been relying heavily on the beacon and fog horn as visibility has been down to between 0 and 1/4 miles. That’s pretty much due to the dew point being so high. But we have been fortunate in that we have not had any incidences with our fishing fleet and I have not heard of any recreational boaters getting caught out there. On the other hand we continue to hear those reports of more and more great whites in the area. We even have a report of one of our fisherman ending up with one on the end of his fishing pole that was unexpected as he was trying to reel in a striper. The other warning I need to pass on is that there have been some pretty strong rip currents up and down the outer cape and along the south shores. Remember folks if you find yourself in one of these move side to side, then once you find ourself out of the pull move inshore. Do not try to fight it in the stream or you will quickly find yourself loosing a battle you cant win.
So with all that information, I hope you are having a wonderful summer. We still have a good 5 and 1/2 weeks to go before Labor Day. Remember we are open every day of the week right now with plenty of parking and yes the Mrs is still backing those wonderful cookies for everyone who can handle them. She tells me I handle them too well, I think I need to try a few more to make up my mind on that one before I agree to quickly. Well I hope to see you soon and for those who have already been here, thank you so much and to all have a great and wonderful especially if you are doing it right here on old Cape Cod.
Well can you believe it we are at the end off another month and time for another cheesecake. With summer here I wanted something that would be light and airy yet refreshing as a dessert or later evening treat. I think I have found it with this recipe. As usual please look over ingredients before you just dive in but I think if you choose to take this one one you will find it really is not that hard and pretty easy and tastes even more. So put on your chief’s hat and dawn your apron and let’s get busy and let’s blow everyone away with this summer treat. Oh and did I say NO BAKE, Now on with the show,

This week’s recipe: Lemon Cream Cheesecake

8 1/2 oz chocolate icebox cookies (1 pkg)
1/4 cup melted butter
8 oz cream cheese, softened (1 pkg)
6 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla (real stuff please)
2 each egg yoks
1 env unflavored gelatin
2 Tbsp cold water
3 each egg whites
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
1 oz sq. semi-sweet chocolate
Juice & rind of 1/2 large lemon (grate rind)

Process cookies in food processor or blend until they become crumbs. Blend in melted butter and press into a 9 inch round pan, bottom and sides. Combine cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, the lemon juice, and grated rind. Beat in the egg yolks. Soften gelatin in 2 tablespoons cold water until dissolved. Add to the cheese mixture. Beat the egg whites until stiff but not dry. Gently fold the egg whites into the cheese mixture then fold whipped cream into egg white mixture. Fill the crust and chill for at least 3 hours. Before serving, grate chocolate and sprinkle around edges of cake and a bit in the center.

Wok-N-Woll Wednesday / 7-25-18

Wok-N-Woll Wednesday EveryOne
Howdy Dowdy folks and welcome to a this wonderful wacky world of hump day. Where halvies is the name of the game, half way through the day we will be half way through the week and that will be half way over the mountain. So as we prepare today for our climb, (speaking of which, let’s get them hikers pulled on and laced up) we need to remember that we will only be spending half our day going up hill and the other half heading down hill. When we get to the time, take ownership of the job you have accomplished so far and plant that flag, then take a moment and look back and be encouraged with how far we have come. Then turn, look out over the landscape and make a mental map of the direction we need to head in, then pick up your stuff and move off the other side of the mountain. So how’s the attitude going, are you letting the turkeys get to you, are you finding yourself at the bottom of the pot with all the burnt pieces of scraps. Well do something about it and choose to rise like the cream to the top of the pot and to soar with eagles. You may not actually get there but at least you can give it the best you can and have doing it and cheer up yourself along with those around you. Now there are those we will come upon that have just been beaten down and are near dead, we need to recognize these needs, stop, listen to what is needed and see them to the closest care station, then get back on our way. If you have not grabbed hold that staff do so now and let’s get to the staring line cause the parade is about to start. So let’s get there and let’s go make us a most Happy, Happy all day long cause no one else is going to do it for us.

Braiser Tuesday / 7-24-18

Braiser Tuesday EveryOne
Wow, isn’t it good to see a new day dawn? The sun rise, the birds chirp, the bunnies bouncing across the lawn. Ok may not the birds as they have a tendency to what to begin their chirping at 4:30 am around here and all I want at that hour is to close my eyelids and hear nothing but peace and quite for another 2 hours of sleep. But it is what it is, and life goes on and so must we. Tuesday’s I feel are attitude day, in that we need to check the bad attitude and everything we want to drag into today that we need to leave behind in yesterday and grab hold that good attitude, put a smile on our face and start whistling a happy tune. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do to make it through a day. But this is another day, another chance to leap ahead, another opportunity to discover what joys and positive experiences you can encounter. And no I am not blowing sunshine up anyones tail pipe. Sometimes you just have to do and make the best of what is and not worry about what isn’t or what you don’t have. Not always easy, and sometimes downright difficult, but life goes on and we need to make the best of what is on our plates. So, with all that, let’s get those hikers pulled on and grab hold that staff, as you do that, a quick reminder that we will come on those that need a lot of help, and we need to be open and aware when the situation arrises. Be open to stoping, listing, and then helping in anyway we can and or need to then see them to the next care station. Well it’s about time to move this parade to the starting line and get this day going and go make us a most Happy, Happy cause no one is going to do it for us but us.

Gratin Monday / 7-23-18

Gratin Monday EveryOne
Another Week, another chance at new and different opportunities, another adventure trekking paths and directions never gone before. That’s right folks, the weekend is done and gone, good, bad or indifferent it’s not coming back, we get no redoes or do overs. It is forward motion we go, onward, upwards and to where only who knows where, but we are going to go, there is no stopping, getting off, putting a comma in the middle of things, asking for the world to wait for you. Nope, it is all go, bad, good or indifferent, with nothing to lose and everything to gain. So on this fine Monday morning let’s get it together and get it going, pull on them hikers and lace them up tight. The mountain we climb is not a gimmi (oh wait that’s my name let’s try not a gimme), but it is conquerable, accomplishable, achievement to do and we will do it at times alone and at times with others giving help and accepting help as it is needed. Speaking of helping, there will be those along the way that are in dire desperate need of help. We will take the time to stop and listen and lend a hand in whatever way we can then see them to the next care stations so they can get the proper help that is needed. Then back on our way down the path we must travel. Time to grab the staff and head for the starting line, we have a great and grand way to travel today so let’s get this parade going and go make us a most Happy, Happy all day long, cause no one else it going to do it for us.

Hallelujah Friday / 7-20-18

Hallelujah Friday EveryOne
Get up, Get up, Get up, we have made it to the last day of the week. I know some of you were not even sure you would make it past Tuesday let alone to Friday. But we have made it, the sun is shining, the wind is blowing and we are going to take the stand that nothing is going to stop us from finishing this day with a smile on our face and a joy in our hearts. So first things first, get ride of those hikers and staff and pull on those sprinters. Next be sure to get the suntan lotion on all over so you don’t have issues sleeping tonight, a burn body does not do well for enjoying the weekend. And last grab your visor so you can shade your eyes so you can see the goal ahead of you and see it clearly at all times. Now just cause it’s Friday does not mean we get to take the day off from helping others. We will when the time arrises, help whomever is in true dire need, give them the time they need, listen to their needs, and see them to the next checkpoint so they can get them the total care they need. Now let’s get that smile to the line and ready to start this day. We are not here to judge others around us with what is not happening, but offering a support and encouragement so that they feel the passion to finish this day as strong as you want to. Be faithful, be true, give it all you’ve got, do it with integrity and scruples, and may your quality meet your quantity and let’s give our best from beginning to end. Now let’s get this day going and take it all the way making us a most Happy, Happy all day and all weekend long, not only for us but for those around us, cause no one else is going to do it for us.

Chirky Thursday / 7-19-18

Chirky Thursday EveryOne
And before you say a word yes I did digress to using a 19th century work that although is antiquated fits right in with what I have been saying all along this week and trying to promote. Let’s be happy, even if we have to make it ourselves. Well today is no different from any other, the world has not stopped, the sun did come up, even if you have to peer through or get over the clouds to see, and we did wake up and our day has begun. SO, now that we are here, we might as well make the best of it, and just make it a Ricochet day (yes another 19th century word LOL) So while many of you are scratching your heads on these words, let’s get those hikers pulled on and laced up and grab hold that staff. As I have preached in the past, Thursdays seem to be the workhorse day of the week. Pulling and pushing all the loose ends out there pointed in one direction. Making sure all that has been started this week is still going the way we need them too, and correcting the wayward ones. By end of day we want to be down off this mountain and out past the tree line so we will be sleeping under clear and star filled skies this evening. Now along the way we are still finding many who are in great need and hurting. We continue to stop and listen and attend to their needs in whatever way we can and see them to the next checkpoint for the continued help they need. Now as we started, let’s get it together and go make us a most Happy, Happy cause no one else is going to do it for us. And let’s make the best of whatever comes our way.
