Smoked Friday EveryOne
Welcome to Paradise Friday and the last Friday of January 2015. Can you believe we have now traveled 1/12 of the year already, and you thought we were not going to get past the 10th let alone the entire month. So sing a little song, do a little dance and let’s get down today cause we have some celebrating to do. It is totally a good time to be happy, happy, happy, happy, happy. Ok it’s Friday the last day of the regular guys work week, and we are here, so another good thing, you have accomplished much and have much to be proud of, you were able to get out of bed this morning, and you still have most ( I don’t think any of us  have all) of our properties about us, and we have a great day before us. So get your head up, lift your eyes to the finish line and let’s put some heat between us and the path we trod and beat it to the end. Last one there misses out on a whole lot of fun. Now for the theme of the week they are all varieties or types of Salts. Remember to help one in true need along the way and celebrate with all the rest around you. Have a most great and wicked wonderful day and weekend.

Vacation PlanningInsights & Hot Seafood Dip / 1-29-2020

So we are almost into February, do you have your vacation time set up yet. For us at my place of employment we have to schedule 6 months in advance to get the dates we want, but they wont let us go out any further. So for planning purposes we are looking at July we can schedule and come next week the beginning of August. You don't want to get caught by surprise, expecting to take a vacation and forget that you forgot to request your time off. Or better yet, you scheduled your time off but forgot to reserve the cottage or get the hotel or motel rooms you wanted. So let's start putting out thoughts together and getting those place at least started. I think this year is going to be a sizzling year for vacations and beach places are going to be at a premium. Check with grandma & grandpa, or Mom & Dad for when the cottage is available or when they might have a room open to come visit. Things of all your options and get them going
Can you tell I am ready for Spring, if not Summer? Ever since I had the last back surgery my body does not seem to like the cold as much or the changing weather patterns. But life is what life is and we have to leave to live with it. They told me, 1/3 get better, 1/3 stay the same and 1/3 get worse. I think I cover the gamete of all three in one way or another, it is just different and life is definitely changed. Some good, some not so good, some I wish would, so we deal with what we have to at this point and push forward. Life is not always what it seems or what you had hoped would be. So how do we deal with it is what makes our world go round. The surroundings do help in getting through those times and for me my faith. The Cape takes this a long way for me, from walks on the beach, going clamming, just going out onto the deck and star gazing. I hope if you live you, you are able to appreciate it. You are not so tied to your mortgage that you can not enjoy it. And I hope and pray that all are able to physically find this a rejuvenating place to be. I keep looking for some of these answers while others are being met. And if you don't live here, I hope when you come and visit, you can find this this is a great place to just unwind and recharge. So start planning those vacations and start preparing to unwind in this great and wonderful place we call old Cape Cod.
This week I am going to report on two that I have not done a lot with. The first just because I combine them in with Cape Cod Beer. But they have some things going on that I want to make a point of. But first in their words: SHOAL HOPE CIDERWORKS is a Provincetown, Massachusetts-based Hard Cider Producer. Founded in late 2015, the build-out of the ciderworks begin in March of 2017 and the first fermentations were pitched on May 17th of that year.  The product was formally launched on June 24th and quickly became popular with local residents and tourists alike.  Along with producing great ciders, Shoal Hope Ciderworks is committed to being an active and supportive member of the business and cultural communities in Provincetown and throughout the region. Now were to taste Shoal Hope is at Cape Cod Beer tasting room, you can get a flight that is a great way to sample their Cider and folks this stuff is so good. Major even however coming up, now it is a ticked event but will be worth with and held at Cape Cod Beer. Meet the Cider Maker: Rob of Shoal Hope Ciderworks!  When? February 21, 2020 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, cost $25.00. So were to get tickets, Online through Cape Cod Beer, The Shoal Hope Ciderwords facebook page (there are links on both to who is handling the tickets.) This should be a fun evening and some great time of learning about Cider and tasting. So happy to see this new company really taking off. Check them out and try their products they are really tasty.
Next up Devils Purse, Located in South Dennis located at 120 Great Western Road, South Dennis, or online at https://www.devilspurse.com/. Their WINTER TAPROOM HOURS are as follows: FRIDAY 12-7PM, SATURDAY 12-7PM, SUNDAY 12-4PM. Now a big even this weekend, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1 from 12:00 PM  4:00 PM, In their words they have noted, WE ARE CELEBRATING THE RETURN OF CLARITY COFFEE PALE ALE WITH OUR FRIENDS+COLLABORATORS SNOWY OWL COFFEE ROASTERS. THEY WILL BE BRINGING THEIR WONDERFUL POP-UP COFFEE STATION OVER TO THE BREWERY AND SETTING UP SHOP! Then on February 13 they going on INTIMATE CHOCOLATE + BEER PAIRING, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2020, 6:00 PM  8:00 PM, This is a ticketed event tickets are $30.00, go to their events page and click on the link to buy tickets. And if this does not sound good I am not sure what does, other than Steak and Lobster dinner. Ok so get to their events page cause there is more going on. Folks it is happening at Devil's Purse check em out or just check out their beers, they have some very delicious offerings.
Ok so my son came and visited me over MLK weekend, and we had gotten a couple coupons from one of those BOGO or half price deals. So we ended up doing Red Nun Restaurant in Dennis Port and Sargo Cafe in Dennis. Folks Im telling you both were out of this world. At Red Nun what, else do you get but a fabulous burger on one of their english muffin buns. Folks these things are incredible, and to go with it a flight of beer, and for the price it was beyond out standing. One of my go to places, that has not failed me yet. The on Sunday we went to Scargo Cafe, we both thad the steak and eggs. Folks my son is a little picky on own he like his steak, but they nailed it. And for me I am a rare medium type, could not have been any better if I had tried myself. The homemade bread to die for, and the Bloody Mary was oh so tasty. And yes we finished with the GrapeNut Custard. WOW again another place I have not been disappointed in anytime I go. So watch for when the coupons when available, folks every little bit helps me, but please when you go with one of these coupons, remember to tip on the original bill, not the discounted amount, doing that is just rude. Ok so enough of that, Just watch for them and save when you can and enjoy great local dinning.
And the weather weirdness continues. Folks do you realize how messed we get along the coast line with this weather? The cooler water, the warmer air temperatures makes for a very foggy time. You always wondered why the UK was always so foggy? Well the Gulf Stream dumps onto the beaches of the UK (ok United Kingdom) and then the cooler breezes come down from the North Atlantic waters and, wham bam you got more fog than a warm room filled with dry ice. Anyway we have got the same stuff going on there and make for very tricky navigating out of harbors and around shoals and sandbars. And a lot of this think pea soup does not make it back onto shore as the winds keep it moving. So when you hear those fog warnings go off, keep our fishermen and women in your prayers for safe travels. Now other than that not a lot happening. We don't have any major holidays on the horizon, I know, Valentines Day and St Patrick's Day is a big thing for many but they don't count. So for the rest of January and through February will be quiet. We are still doing those private tours and definitely love having those school kids in. You should see their faces when we talk about sea monsters and ghosts. And about pirates and lost bounties from their wrecks. We talk about whales and sharks and beach safety, along with what the life saving station did in long ago ages and what the lighthouse has meant to the Cape and the coastline. So they get a great education and we love seeing them get excited about we are all about here. So if you know of a school that wants to do this, just let us know and we will try to work something out. So I think that is about it for now. I have to get looking for a good bundt cake recipe (oh don't worry I have probably more than all of you combined I love Bundt Cakes and they love me. But I spoke up to make one for our church lunchen, so I better to do it well. I hate when you get a great recipe and the half the top sticks to the top of the pan. But I am getting better at that so they look really nice. So I hope you all have a great and wonderful week, and especially if you can do it right here on old Cape Cod.
This is the fifth Wednesday of the month and we love to do appetizers. It has been the custom over the past several years to do something that is seafood worthy. And this year will be no different, although enjoy it cause next year I am going to start changing it up as man (as in kind no gender reference here) doth not live by seafood along. Although I could die trying, there are so many different goodies, but that is for next year. Back to the here and now. With the Super Bowl happening just around the corner we all love finger food, tailgate food, and great appetizers. So this week and starting out this year is  a Hot Seafood Dip. What better than a good beer and seafood, ok some would say wine and seafood. But whatever your beverage of choice is, do it with seafood. Now before I start dribbling all over the keyboard let's get this show on the road.

This week's recipe: Hot Seafood Dip

      1      pkg      cream cheese
1      can      crabmeat ( 6 1/2 oz or bigger) or tuna, or shrimp, all drained
      2      Tbsp    green onions, chopped
   1/2      tsp       horseradish
   1/3      cup      slivered almonds, toasted
      1      Tbsp    butter
   1/8      tsp       salt
      1      Tbsp    lemon juice
1/8      tsp       freshly ground black pepper
      1      Tbsp    milk

Place almonds and butter in a 1 cup measure and microwave 3 to 4 minutes until almonds are light brown, stirring every minute. Set aside. In a 1 quart microwave-safe dish, place cream cheese, Microwave on HIGH 30 second to soften. Add remaining ingredients and microwave on HIGH another 2 to 3 minutes or until hot. Stir every minute to distribute heat. Do not overcook as the fish is very delicate. Garnish with toasted almonds. with with slices of French bread or crackers.

Black Lava Thursday EveryOne
I’m dreaming of a white Groundhog Day, just like the ones I used to know. Ok it's winter, It's almost February and we have hardly had any snow. But then again, the electric bill is lower, the gas bill is lower, and it does help getting out of bed seeing the sun up instead of it being gray and gloomy and all that white glare from that stuff. So be of good cheer, I can still enjoy the sunrise, there are more birds out and about, and, and, and. On this Thursday morning let’s rejoice as we head down the backside of this week’s work mountain, for just another day to be alive and as well as we can be. Let’s give it  our best in all we do and be joyful for all we have along the way, Now let’s go beach combing and see what we can find and enjoy every moment no matter what it is doing outside your windows. Now if you see one in true need stop and help, and to all the rest you pass, wave and give a big grin and make the wonder what is up. And have a most Happy, Happy all day long.

Smoked Wednesday EveryOne
Welcome to a winter wonder Wednesday land, ok so there is no snow on the ground, today may be the chilliest of the week just in the 30s and no precipitation in the forecast of any kind till the weekend. Have to tell ya'll I enjoy seeing the blue sky and the sun rising. Is it going to be an easy day, most likely not, as there is still much work that needs done, but to know I am able to do it and enjoy all that is around that I can be very grateful on many levels. Is your glass half empty today or half full, be thankful you have a glass. It is hump day, half way day, ,midway point. So we will top the peak and start our trek off this mountain in just 4 hours. Rejoice and find all good things to be happy about and use that as fuel to get you through the rest. Have a great and wonderful, remember to lend a hand to those in true need and smile to all the rest crossing your path. And may you have a most Happy, Happy all day long.

Tuesday Morning 1/28/2020

Persian Blue Tuesday EveryOne
Well, it’s another absolutely beautiful day and how can you complain about this much sun in January . It's a wicked awesome beautiful day, regardless if you’re a Polar Bear or a Polar Fox, Snowy Owl or a human being. I would give you a report to the looks outside my office window but the sun coming up between the homes across the street from me is blinding me in the eyes, but it is January and the mornings are still chilly. But for now, my electric is still on and I still have heat. So work I will. All those reading not in NE or on Cape Cod, well, eat your hearts out, as it is just beautiful. I look back and 5 years ago we were digging out of mega snow and the winds were just howling. Oh what a couple years make, and yo will find no complaints out of me. So with all this beauty going on, how can we waste a Tuesday like this. So while you are out and about, smile at someone and make they wonder what it's all about. Take the time to reach out and love someone you might not thing so loving. Spread the sunshine and let the glow within radiate to all that come in contact with you today. Ok Have a great day, help those in true need and smile to all the rest. And have a most Happy, Happy today.

Monday Morning /1-27-2020

Maras Monday EveryOne
Oh what a beautiful Morning, Oh what a beautiful day, I have a funny feeling, something is coming our way. Yes folks I live in the great NorthEast, the place they call Cape Cod, and the things they are forecasting, should not, but we are not going to complain or squabble about with temps in the mid to + 40s. So today I sing oh what a beautiful morning, and come what may tomorrow. For you who are already having “fun” be thankful you can enjoy it. Seriously, enjoy it. We have so much going on around us that the tranquility of it can actually be calming if you let it. So as we begin this week with much before us, let us give thanks for all this was, all that is and all that will be. And let us focus on what we have to do and can do. And to the rest, just whistle a happy tune, or would it be toon in this case. Monday morning always are a hoot and blast to see what it is bring, guess I will not be disappointed with this Monday either. Have a great and wonderful, regardless of what is going on around you and remember if you come on one in true need, lend a hand and to the rest greet with a hearty smile. And may you have a most Happy, Happy in all situations you find yourself in.

Kennebec Friday /1-24-2020

Kennebec Friday EveryOne
Haaaa-ppy, Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy,  Happy Friiii-day morning to you. It’s a wonderful day in the neighborhood and I am so glad to be alive and well. Up and about, the mind as sharp as a plastic butter spreader and a little on the feet as an elephant in a stampede. What a wonderful morning,  You think I’m joking, and I am not, I am most serious and deliriously and exponentially  filled with joy this morning knowing that I am alive and well and knowing we are finally here on the door step of Paradise Friday. Think about it, I’m up and about, I’m not bed ridden, I have most of my properties about me, I would say I have my mind by some are already questioning that. And the list goes on, sometimes you physically and mentally need to down the list of things that make it a good day as there are plenty of things in our lives that can drag us down. But when you start to dwell on those things that are good and that you can be grateful for, your joy should change rapidly to the good and your outlook on both today and the future should be positively effected as well. Does it fix everything, no, is everything going to go right today, I doubt it, but starting out with what is good, will greatly help you attaché head on those other issues when and if they come and help you reach your end goal with a much more positive outlook than starting out any other way. This weeks theme,, no forgetting here,, Different varieties of Potatoes. I hope you have a wicked wonderful day and weekend and make the most of all that is given to you today. Remember if you come on one in true need, stop and lend a hand and to all the others greet with great enthusiasm. And may you have a most Happy, Happy all day and all weekend long.

Russian Banana Thursday / 1-23-2020

Russian Banana Thursday EveryOne
Well it is a winter wonderland in my corner of the planet this morning. We are wondering where winter is in this land but not really complaining about it. The sun is rising, the sky is a light blue with hues of yellow and orange. Ahh waking up in the mornings, just think if I had stayed in bed I most likely would have missed all this. Hum. Ok enough of that before other thoughts creep into my head. Sometimes, if not most of the times I have to take every little thing that is good to get me going in the morning. So give a smile shake off the morning droopies and let’s remember how good it is to be alive and well, and once we start to fix our mind on those wonderful things, let’s get this journey back on the road and start the trek off this work mountain. It is Thursday and it is a wonderful day for skiing the moguls, especially in upper New England. Humps and bumps that try to dump you on your rum* and give you lumps in places you didn’t expect. But have fun with it, enjoy the ride and if you do go down get back up and finish the run. The only way to the bottom is down the hill, let’s take this head on and run like the wind. If you come on another in true need along the way stop and lend a hand, and to all others give a hoot and a gleeful holler. And may yo have a most Happy, Happy all day long.

January Life & Honey Bourbon Whiskey Balls 1/22/2020

Ok, so what have you been doing for the last few weeks since the new years. The weather for the most part has been interesting, so depending on the day and the week, either bundled up to keep the wind off or walking around in shorts and a t-shirt, in January, who'da thunk? Not me. Personally I prefer the warmer weather, especially when I take my pooch for his evening walks. Just makes it easier to get around the neighborhood when I don't have to bundle up so much. However I will say my little guy, (a Pomeranian) just loves the snow. This past weekend when we had the Saturday snow, my son and I took him for a walk and he just went bonkers. My best image to offer is if you remember the movie Gremlins when they get wet. Yup thats my boy. Speaking of boys, my son, who lives in Florida decided to make a pilgrimage to see his dear old Dad. So grateful to have his company, and just have some down time with him here over MLK weekend. Only thing is, what is he doing coming north in the winter, shouldn't I be going south to visit him? LOL. But we have a good time, great food and sleeping in a bit. Do you have family coming in? Do you get to escape to a warmer place? Whatever you do I hope you are able to relax and just get enjoy this quiet season and are able to stay warm. The only other things I have been doing, has been working, long days, long weeks, but I need it to help pay off this new kitchen of mine. It is great, having fun in it. love it to death, but will be paying for it for a while, just due to the extra time it took and the additional unexpecteds we ran into. And no not even my contractor could have planned some of these. But it is all done and wow, I think I can actually say I have a magazine type kitchen. Could not be any more happy with i and will always be grateful to my contractor for all he did. Well that's about it for another week, maybe something good and exciting will happen and will be able to share, then again knowing my life, We will figure something else to discuss. But it will almost always be something about this great place we call old Cape Cod. Have a great and wonderful and see you back here soon.
This weeks local business report, reports into Brewster. Although he has been there now a bit over a year the new kid on the block for your local spirits shop is Brewster Wine & Spirits located in Foster Square located right in the front. I have been driving back and forth and have seen it but had never been in. I met the owner several weeks before at another event and is a really nice guy and encouraged. So in I went, they have a really nice selection of beer and spirits and a really good wine selection. So if you live around or do business in this area, and enjoy your libations, check out Brewster Wine & Spirits.
Right behind Brewster Wine & Spirits is Oki Sushi  Restaurant, http://okisushibrewster.com/, The actual address is 2655 Main Street #16, all I can find are wonderful reports on having good food. I am very interested in trying them as I enjoy good Sushi. Now they are on vacation 1-21 through 1-28, but they will be back on on 1-29. They have daily specials, they have Maki, Sushi, & Sashimi, along with Sushi entrees. They are open Wednesday through Monday 4:30 to 9, but Friday and Saturday till10. So pick up some wine, some Sushi and have a great evening.
If Sushi is not your back, go back a little further and you will find Brewster Pizza House and Sports Bar. find them on the web at https://brewsterhousepizza.com/. check out there menu, they are a great little local place to grab a cold brew and a great pizza Calzone, Grinder, Burgers and more. They have a nice place to sit and have a great time with family and friends and have some great food.
Across the street you will find the Brewster Book Store, a great place to find new prints, local prints, book signings and a whole lot more. You want the latest New York bester seller, this is the place to get it. So for your actual book needs check them out. Then next to them is Ace Hardware, Karma Foods and the Snowy Owl Coffee Roaster. Brewster has a lot to offer but sometimes you have to just look a little closer to see all that it has. So get out and go visit your local businesses.
Welcome back to the rolly-polly world of winter weather here on Cape Cod. I will have to say, when the wind is not blowing and the sun has been out, it has been down right beautiful. But that wind over the last couple days has just felt bone chilling, I'm not sure if that is because of the warmer days we have had earlier in the month or what. But the temperatures are really normal and not extreme lows, so who gets it? I have had several of those older timers, you know the ones older than I am (and that's old) who tell me that these are more like the past winders of years gone by when their friends used to go golfing in the middle of January every year. Then it got colder and snowier and well just ridiculous. But we are back to the days of golfing on Cape Cod in the middle of winter. What is this when you have to make a decision on the weekend whether to go golfing or clamming? If there ever was a decision to make there. Do you wanna eat or play games? And yes we have several golf courses around here, not to forget the frizbee or disc golf courses either. We could use a few more of those around here. Anyway, I am surprised that I am not seeing more recreational fisherman going out, as the seas have been quiet and lack stormy weather. But I guess they are all down in Florida where it is, well not much warmer, the past couple of day. Around here all is quiet, too quiet as there is a Helium Shortage going on, not just here but globally so our weather balloons have not been going up like we would prefer they do. But other than that, we are still reading the gauges, keeping records, and doing the visuals. The station we are keeping tightied up till spring, then we will do the yearly painting and updates. So with tall that, stay healthy, this change in weather is really nasty for colds and flue, but enjoy the sunny days and take full advantage of that warmth anyway you can on the cooler days. And remember we are gaining sunlight now every day and the coldest averaged days are not behind us and with each day towards spring it is gradually getting warmer, or at least we like to think that. So have a great and wonderful , stay healthy and warm and have blast in whatever you do, especially if you can do it right here on old Cape Cod.
This year we are going to revisit a favorite of mine, Cookie Balls. I love cookies balls, they are small, poppers, you can have a few now and a few later. Or a lot now or a lot later, whatever you want. But all these recipes are new, none are repeats and they are all great recipes. Oh and for this recipe as are about half the recipes are not for the younger generation. Please be mindful that those with liquor, aka booze, and are no-bakes you get a pretty strong kick of the liquor. Those that are baked, a majority of the alcohol burns off, but not all of it, don't be fooled by those recipes or comments that tells you that cooking eliminates the alcohol, it does not. So please be mindful. Now let's go have some fun with this one, and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Now on with the show:

This week's recipe: Honey Bourbon Whiskey Balls

1      pd        vanilla wagers, finely crushed
   1/2      cup      mild-flavored honey
   2/3      cup      Honey Bourbon Whiskey
1      pd        walnuts and pecans finely chopped

(the original recipe advised that liquor could be 1/3 cup of brandy, Cognac or bourbon and 1/3 cup of rum I chose to make it honey bourbon whiskey and go just one, not mixed. I'm not making a cocktail, I'm making cookie balls)

Combine all ingredients and work together thoroughly, using your hands. Form into small balls and roll in superfine granulated sugar or in sifted powdered sugar (the balls should have a generous coating of sugar). For best results wrap each separately in plastic wrap. Let stand for at least 24 hours before serving, and the longer the better, possibly a week or more to allow flavors to mellow and blend. This recipe makes about 5 dozen.
(One last thing, if you wish not to use liquor can substitute orange juice for the liquor and add several tablespoons of grated orange rind.)

Desiree Wednesday EveryOne
How do you do on this mid-week roller-coaster ride. Today we are about to crest the top of the mountain, go over the top, be at its highest peak before the decent towards paradise Friday. Are you ready, are you wide eyed and bushy tailed, are you ready to run like a happy camel to an oasis, are you like the house looking to get back to the barn, raring to bolt. Well I’m not sure I’m that awake this morning but, I am up and I am happy that I am breathing, could get out of bed by myself and had a roof over my head. So It is a good day and a good day to be started. So as you go this morning look for all the good things that are happening, stop looking for the negatives and see what you can give thanks for and be happy about. It is Wednesday and it is another opportunity to live another day. So let’s get it together, put on that happy face and let’s get this show on the road. We are not going to get to Friday by standing here all day long. If you come on one that is in true need, lend them a hand and to all the others, give a word of encouragement. And may your day be nothing short of a most Happy, Happy all day long.

Golden Wonder Tuesday / 1-21-2020

It's a Golden Wonder Tuesday EveryOne
Morning to all the birds and the bees and if I could find a peppermint tree that would be nice too, but I will take what I have and go from there. What a day to start and know we only have 4 more days to this so called working week, to some starting on Tuesday is a much fine think than Monday but hey any day I am able to get out of bed breathing and walk to the kitchen to get my coffee is a good day. So grab a stick of honey and not a lump of coal, lick your way to happiness on the sugar of life’s highs. Enjoy the present as if there were tomorrows, but plan every day as if you were to live and impact the world for another hundred. We have a wonderful gift called life, live it to the fullest and share it with others. Don’t hoard all your good for yourself and give the best you have to those around you. Today is Tuesday and the journey is going to be quick and furious, so get on your running shoes and let’s conquer this hill together in style. On the way if we encounter one in true need, we will be stopping to lend a hand. And to all the others greet with great encouragement and invite them to join us. And whatever happens may you have a most Happy, Happy all day long.
